- The funeral for Mr. Gary Lee Tidwell Sr., formerly of Chester, will be conducted at 1 p.m. today, Wednesday, Aug. 6, at First Mount Zion Baptist Church in Charlotte. The Rev. Nathaniel Watts will officiate and burial will follow in Gethsemane Baptist Church Cemetery in Chester.
- Mr. Tidwell, 73, died Friday, Aug. 1, 2008, at Mercy Main Hospital in Charlotte.
- Born in Chester County on Dec. 5, 1934, he was a son of the late Willis W. Tidwell and Odessa Isom Tidwell. A member of Bethel Baptist Church in Chester, Mr. Tidwell attended First Mount Zion Baptist Church in Charlotte and was educated in the public schools of Chester County.
- Survivors include two sons, Melvin Tidwell of Morristown, N.J. and Gary Lee Tidwell Jr. of Charlotte; a stepson, Jerry Young of Charlotte; three stepdaughters, Patricia Young, Loretta Young and Mary Young, all of Charlotte; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
- The family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. today at First Mount Zion Baptist Church in Charlotte.
