According to Josie Walker Blakey, who wrote the book "An Osburn Family 1750-1970", Jesse's parents were William Osburn b. abt 1745, and his wife Matilda (Buchanan) Osburn b. 1748 in Washington, Rappahannock Co., Virginia. These two were used as the "traditional" heads of our Osburn family as she could not find those indisbutable connections she so hoped to find in her 30 year research for her book.

Jesse Osburn (and this is the correct spelling of his surname) was born in about 1780 in North Carolina and died about 1863 in Johnson Co., Kentucky, near Flat Gap. According to our Osburn family historian, Josie Walker Blakey, this was written in a letter from 1865 that "On the point of a ridge overlooking Mud Lick and mouth of Jesse Osburn's Little Creek, there is a very old graveyard...I am told that one can count five or six graves there from the old unmarked field stones. Walter Estep who now lives on Patterson Creek (formerly Jesse Osburn's Little Creek) told me about the graveyard. He is in his early sixties, and he said that Mantford Lemaster had told him with assurance that Jesse Osburn is buried there."

Jessie was married to Sarah "Elizabeth" Lemaster 18 February 1807 in Knox Co., Kentucky. They had ten children: Levina (Mrs. Wm. Henson), Sarah (Mrs. Samuel Seagraves), Jonathan Osburn, Lewis Osburn, Edmund J. "Ed" Osburn, Nancy Jane (Mrs. Wiley Blevins), Mary Ann "Aunt Pop" (Mrs. John Winkle), Wilkerson Osburn, Andrew Osburn, and Henry Osburn.
