Robert "Dick" Greene, 89, of Sylva's Dillardtown community, died Tuesday, Oct. 24, at his daughter's residence in Cary.
Funeral service were held at noon Friday, Oct. 27, at Sylva First Baptist Church. The Revs. Ed Beddingfield and Loyd Ginn officiated. Burial was in Keener Cemetery.
A native and lifelong resident of Jackson County, he was a retired machinist with Mead Corp., with more than 35 years of service. He was a member of Sylva First Baptist Church, where he had been a choir member since 1937, Sylva Volunteer Fire Department for 30-plus years, Sylva Lions Club and Sylva Masonic Lodge. He was the son of the late John and Kate Ensley Greene.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lela A. Greene; and one son, Robert "Bob" Greene Jr.
Surviving are one daughter, Mary Jo Maidon of Cary; one sister, Lona Lowe of Asheville; one brother, L.V. Greene of Asheville; three granddaughters; and four great-grandchildren.
Melton-Riddle Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
