Joseph Enos Butrick, son of Enos and Catherine Butrick, was born in Carroll county, Iowa, December 27, 1859, where he grew to manhood.
He was united in marriage to Alta C. Ricker, July 5, 1899. To this union were born six children: one son, who died in infancy; Harold L., Mrs. J. E. Alexander, Nellie G., Josephine E. and Mildre F. These, with the wife and one grandson, James Enos Alexander; one brother, Walter; a half brother, William K,; a half sister, Mrs. Joe Oxenford, together with other relatives and friends, are left to mourn his death, which occurred Wednesday, June 26, 1929.
Funeral services were conducted at the home Saturday afternoon, by the Rev. E. L. Edwards, pastor of the Church of Latter Day Saints, of Pomeroy. Burial was in the cemetery near Glidden.

LIGHTNING KILLS LOCAL FARMER
LONG-TIME RESIDENT OF THIS LOCALITY.
During the severe rain and electrical storm that swept through this vicinity Wednesday evening, Joe Butrick, elderly farmer of southwest of Lake City, was struck by lightning and instantly killed. Mr. Butrick and his son had started from the house to the barn and when it started to rain and he stopped under a tree for shelter when the crash came.
The funeral will be held Saturday, but the time and place has not been announced as we go to press.

Joseph was the son of Enos and Catherine A. (DeLeVergne). His mother died in 1864, when Joseph was five years old and his father married Sarah (Brown)) DeLeVergne. Joseph is listed on the 1870 census living with Enos and Sarah at Glidden, Carroll County, Iowa.
On July 5, 1899 at Glidden, Iowa, Joseph married Alta C. Ricker. In the 1900 census, they were living with Joseph's brother, David, at Becker, Cass County, Minnesota, farming.
They were living there in the 1905 census also.
