Olive Dodge married Samuel Peterson on March 13, 1812 in Waldo Co., Maine. Their oldest known son, Samuel Peterson, was known to have been born in 1815 in Ohio, so Olive and Samuel's journey west would of happened soon after they married. In 1850 they were in Vinton Co., Ohio. By 1860 and 1870, her husband Samuel lived in Pottawattamie Co., Iowa with their sons Samuel and Isaiah, respectively. It can only be assumed that Olive and Samuel had continued to move west after 1850, living in Vermilion Co., Illinois at the time of her death in 1857. It can also be assumed Samuel then moved to Iowa to live with his sons.

ADDITIONAL INFO WORTH NOTING: Who are Olive's parents? In 1850, an Elizabeth Dodge was listed in the US Census in the household of Samuel and Olive Peterson. According to Elizabeth Dodge's Revolutionary War 1844 widow pension application (for deceased husband Caleb Dodge), Olive signed an affidavit that she had known the couple since early childhood. With this affidavit and Olive's marriage record, she has some unknown degree of kinship with Caleb and Elizabeth Dodge. Olive is linked to this Dodge family, and that would place her as a grandchild of Nicholas Dodge Sr. and Experience Woodbury. However, which son is her father is not known at this time. I have come across several family trees for this Dodge family during my research for Olive. Some suggest her parents are Nicholas Dodge Jr. and Elizabeth Myrick, while others say it is Caleb Dodge and his wife Elizabeth (from 1850 Census). However, there is no real documentation/records. Yet, Olive is related to this family somehow as myself and several other cousins of mine (under Olive) have been matched through DNA testing to other descendants of matriarchs Nicholas Dodge Sr. and Experience Woodbury. After much thought, and message requests from others, I added Olive's parents as Nicholas Dodge Jr. and Elizabeth Myrick on this site. I was and am still weary of who were her biological parents however DNA testing has brought me a connection to this Dodge family. She is my 3rd great grandmother and our family continues to search for this, while wishing to find the correct tree to climb.
