At the 1820 census, Colmore and Mary Ann (Offutt) Offutt had four girls and a boy under 10, one girl 10-16. That census was taken in Medley's District, #2, Montgomery Co. Jane, 10, was the girl 10-16; Lemuel was 5; Clarissa Ann was 8, and M.G. (Mae George) was between 1 and 3. That means that two little girls died after 1820 and before the census of 1840 (census of 1830 is missing); the grandchildren knew only those enumerated.

On May 1860, Mordecai Burgess Offutt, their 1st cousin, then living in Harrison Co., KY, appeared before Miles S. Wiglesworth, a J.P. of Harrison Co., to present an affidavit stating that Mrs. M.G. Brock is over 18 years of age and M.V. (Manline/Manlius) Offutt is over 21 years of age and that both said persons reside in Harrison Co, KY." (Mae George Offutt m. 1859 Thaddeus Warsaw Brock in Leesburg, KY.) T.W. Brock and M.V. Offutt appeared before a J.P. in Harrison Co. on 4 June 1860 to appoint Mordecai Burgess Offutt their "lawful attorney for us and in our name to receive for our distributive share, bequest or other interest in the estate of the late Colmore Offutt of Montgomery Co., MD, hereby ratifying and approving whatsoever our attorney may lawfully do in the premises."

Apparently, after Colmore's second marriage to Elizabeth Ann Poole in Feb. 1847, Mary Ann's two youngest children, Ann R. and Remus N., elected to go to Kentucky to live with Mordecai Burgess and wife Lucretia Offutt, for on 19 June 1860, the following appears (Montgomery Co. Liber JWS 3, fol. 116): "Received ... of Elizabeth A. Offutt, executrix of Colmore Offutt deceased, five hundred and sixty-one dollars and thirty-four cents in full of the amount due my wards, Ann R. Offutt and Remus N. Offutt, for their distributive share of the estate of Colmore Offutt, real and personal, and in consideration thereof I hereby discharge her from all further demands by reason of my said wards' interest, or claim against her, as executrix of Colmore Offutt, or against said estate real or personal." It was signed, "M.B. Offutt, Guardian."

On 6 June 1857 and 23 Dec. 1858, Elizabeth A. Offutt signed receipts for moneys for her own four children, Mary E., Willett Ann, Eugenia I., and Sarah A. (Mollie, Willie Ann, Genie and Aldie) "Due my wards" signing as "guardian". On 5 Sept. 1859, Sarah A. Offutt, at five years old, petitioned the Orphans Court of Montgomery Co. to appoint Dr. C.F. Willett her guardian, which he accepted and posted bond in the amount of twelve hundred dollars to act with the Orphans Court to manage the [property] and estate of said orphan, etc. and "perform the duty of guardian according to law..." (Liber JWS 3, fol. 49 ff. and 75) Apparently, the Offutt streak of independence was respected at a very early age in those days!Aged 67 years. Husband of Mary Anne and Elizabeth Anne.
