Carol Jean Strickler Michael,65, devoted wife, mother and grandmother, died on Friday, December 31, 1999, at her home near Keezletown. She was born August 28, 1934, in Rockingham County and was the daughter of the late Thomas J. and Mabel Davis Strickler. She was a lifetime resident of this area and graduated from the Rockingham Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1954 and was a member of the RMH Alumni Association.

Mrs. Michael was a member of the Keezletown United Methodist Church and was active with the Shepherd Sunday School Class and the Wednesday Morning Bible Study.

On June 18, 1955, she married Maynard A. Michael. Also surviving are two sons, Steven Maynard Michael and his wife, Dawn Bowman Michael of Port Republic and Mark Alan Michael and wife, Lisa Smith Michael of McGaheysville; two daughters, Linda Michael Liskey and husband, Alan Joseph "Joe" Liskey Jr. of Keezletown and Martha Michael Taylor and husband, Joseph Earl "Joe" Taylor Jr. of Port Republic; one brother, Edward L. Strickler and wife, Janice C. Strickler of McGaheysville; one sister, Ruth Strickler Good and husband, Warren F. Good of Richmond; seven grandchildren, Amberly Helen Taylor, Sarah Mae Ream Liskey, Mary Kathryn Liskey, Steven Thomas Michael, Alissa Dawn Michael, Luke Austin Michael and Allison Paige Michael.

One brother, William D. Strickler and one sister, Louise Strickler Wyant preceded her in death.

A graveside service was conducted 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 1, 2000, at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens by Rev. David Breeden. Pallbearers were Raymond E. "Mike" Michael III, Dale Scott Michael, Steven H. Rogers, Stephen C. Tate, James C. "Jimmy" Strickler, Thomas .J. "Tom" Strickler, Edward L. Strickler Jr., Bennie W. Good and George P. Parker.

A memorial service was held on Saturday evening at 7:00 p.m. at the Keezletown United Methodist by Rev. David Breeden and Rev. Don Hawks.

Memorial donations may be made to the Memorial Fund, c/o Keezletown United Methodist Church, General Delivery, Keezletown, Virginia 22832.
