HELEN HEANEY RYDER

Mrs Helen Ryder passed away Saturday, December 28th at the Smithtown General Hospital. Mrs Ryder, who was a life-long resident of Greenport and Shelter Island, was a graduate of Greenport High School and the Teachers' Training Class which was conducted in the Greenport School at that time as sponsored by the Education Department. Until her recent illness Mrs Ryder had been a resident of the Juniper Rest Home in Lake Ronkonkoma LI, from which she would often travel to visit family and friends.

The deceased was in repose at the Lake Funeral Home in Lake Ronkonkoma where the Rosary was recited on Monday evening. A Requiem Mass was offered for the repose of her soul on Tuesday, December 31st at St Agnes R C Church Greenport, of which Mrs Ryder was a member. Father Mathew Houlihan officiated. Interment was in St Agnes Cemetery, Greenport.

Surviving the deceased are her daughter, Mrs Helen Zanowick of Greenport; three sisters, Mrs Marguerite Stevens of North Bellmore NY, Mrs Hazel Smith of Flushing NY and Mrs Katherine Monck of Rockville Centre; three brothers, William Heaney Sr of Greenport, George Heaney of East Hampton, and John Heaney of East Moriches; four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

For years, Mrs Ryder served as bookkeeper at the Greenport Coal and Grain Company.
