Henry H. Sipe, aged 96 years, and the last surviving member of the Civil War in the town of Derry, passed away on Thursday at his home in Derry. Mr. Sipe suffered a stroke of paralysis in August, this year, since which time his decline had been rapid. The deceased was a native of this county and was well known to a host of persons in this section who were sorry to learn of his demise. After leaving this county Mr. Sipe located in Latrobe, Westmoreland County, and in 1890 moved to Derry, where he had since resided. His wife preceded him in death in 1936. Surviving are five children- Mrs. Minnie Fisher, Mrs. George Armor, Mrs. Mary Gipson, Mrs. Harry E. Horner and Miss Nellie Sipe, all of Derry. He was a brother of Frank Sipe, Johnstown RD 4, and William Sipe, Latrobe. Also surviving are 23 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. Mr. Sipe was a confirmed member of the Lutheran Church since 1861. Funeral services were held on Sunday in the Trinity Lutheran Church, at Derry, with interment following in the Cole Cemetery.
