Eugene "Gene" Acton, 77, of Waycross Drive died at 1:17 p.m. Tuesday, May 28, 2002, at Columbus Regional Hospital.
Mr. Acton was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II and a retired carpenter.
The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Barkes, Inlow & Weaver Funeral Home on Washington Street with the Rev. Kevin Metz officiating. Calling will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today and from 12:30 p.m. until service time Saturday. Burial will be at Harmony Cemetery at Mineral Springs. Military graveside rites will be conducted by Bartholomew County Veterans Color Guard.
Memorials may be made to the donor's choice of charities.
Mr. Acton was born in Columbus Nov. 2, 1924, the son of John Marshall and Sarah O. Imlay Acton.
He is survived by brothers, Marshall E. and Mark Acton, both of Columbus; and sisters, Gini Davis of Oregon, Ellen Hill and Lynn Christie, both of California, Ray Rouzaud of Nevada, Mary Alice Isadore of Alaska and Susian Spurgeon of Columbus.
He was preceded in death by a brother, John Acton.

Burial was at Harmony Cemetery. Pallbearers were Ted, Dennis and Chuck Pfeiffer, Bob Howe, Bob Foist, Cecil Jackson, William Christian and Albert Caluya. Military graveside rites were conducted by Bartholomew County Veterans Color Guard.
