Tahlequah, OK-CHRISTIE, Martin G., 77, yard foreman, died Friday. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday January 11, 2011 at the hart Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in the Caney Cemetery.

Funeral Services for Martin Gene Christie will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday January 11, 2011 at the Hart Funeral Home Chapel with Brother John Studie officiating. Interment will follow in the Caney Cemetery. Martin Gene Christie was born on February 27, 1933 in Welling, OK to Amos and Elsie Christie. His early childhood was spent in Welling where he attended Etta School until his family move to San Joaquin County, CA in the 1940's. The family returned to Tahlequah where he continued his education and graduated from Tahlequah High School in 1953. On April 1, 1960 he started dating the love of his life, Miss Carolyn Holmes. They were married one year later on April 1, 1961. They shared a long and happy life together for 49 years, 9 months and 6 days. Martin and Carol expanded their family having four children. Martin was baptized into the Church of the Firstborn by Brother Quilla Taylor on March 14, 1954. He was ordained as an Elder of the church in September 1979. During his years of service to his brethren he performed many marriages, baptisms and conducted many funerals. Being a servant of our Lord was the purpose and joy of his life. Martin departed this life on January 7, 2011, leaving behind his wife Carol, of the home; son, Amos and wife Madonna, of Welling, OK; three daughters, Margaret and her husband Dean Taylor, of Welling, MO, Jill and her husband Ken Cope, of Nixa, MO and Jane and her husband Martin Jones, of Mutual, OK; grandchildren, Max and Jennifer Taylor, Courtney and Shane Payton, Frankie and Alan Goff, Casey and Katy, Hunter, Billie, Flint, Cade, Alan, Bren and Amber Rae. One brother, Bill Christie, of Welling, OK; two sisters, Maxine Kennedy and husband Tom, of Tucson, AZ and Betty Wood and husband Rhame of Bixby, OK; an abundance of nieces and nephews, and a host of brethren and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Amos and Elsie (Sweet) Christie and his sister Nellie Kempf.
