William Louis Brown was born in Oswego, Labette County, Kansas. He is the son of George Carl Brown (Georg Karl Braun) who immigrated from Murrhardt Germany as a young man. William grew up in the Kansas, Texas, Colorado area, as his father was a cook and followed the workers working on the railroad. He married Gertrude Garrett on July 4, 1898 in Clayton, Union County, New Mexico. Together they had 9 children, 1 girl and 8 boys. He was survived by all his children, but one baby boy, who died as an infant in 1902. He lived his adult life in Texline, Dallam County, Texas and raised his family there. William was a railroad employee. At the age of 58, after a day's work, he boarded the train to return home. When the train arrived, William Louis Brown was found dead.
