K. D. HORRALL, PIONEER MERCHANT, PASSES AWAY
K. D. Horrall died at his home on South Fair Street this morning at 6:20 o'clock, following a long illness brought on by paralysis. Funeral services will be held at the M. E. church Friday afternoon at 3 o'clock, interment in Haven Hill cemetery beside his wife who passed away May 25.

Mr. Horrall was 77 years of age having been born in Daviess County, Ind., June 9,1838.

He was the only son of John and Rebecca (Johnson) Horrall, natives of Vermont and Wabash County, and of English and Scotch descent, respectively.

His father was a veteran of the war of 1812.

K. D. Horrall received an ordinary education in log school houses, and at the age of 14 began to learn the tinner's trade. He served an apprenticeship of five years and came to Olney in 1852.
In 1856 he opened a stove and tinware store which he continued until 1861 when he added a stock of hardware. He built up a trade second to none in Southern Illinois, honesty and straightforwardness characterizing his dealing at all times.
He continued in active business until a few years ago when the K. D. Horrall Hardware company was formed, the management of the large business being turned over to his sons, Adelbert, Walter and H. C. Horrall.

K. D. Horrall was the father of seven children, six sons and one daughter, the daughter having passed away a number of years ago.
The six sons are Adelbert, Walter, Chas. A., and H. C., of Olney: George, of Artesia, N. Mex., and Edward, of Decatur.

K. D. Horrall was held in the highest esteem by everyone who knew him, and his death, while not unexpected, was a great shock to the community.
