She was the daughter of Reuben Ranney Andrews and Sarah M. Willis; her father was a cotton mill owner according to the 1913 New York Times obituary for Susan's 2nd husband, Franklin. Reuben was listed on the 1860 and 1870 census as a cotton manufacturer and lived in North Adams, Massachusetts. Susan married Cyrus William Field on 14 June 1879 in North Adams, Massachusetts. After the death of Cyrus William in 1894, Susan married Franklin Wells Graves on 23 February 1906 in Greenburgh, New York. Franklin died in 1913 and Susan married a third time to George Converse Kimball some time thereafter, as they are married by the April 1930 census.
