Note: Sopha Backues died on March 28, 1999. Also, her middle initial was actually "O", not "S". She used S (the beginning of her maiden name) since O made her initials SOB, which embarrassed her (and we all thought was funny.) I am one of her grandsons. (From contributor, [email protected]).

Sopha Orlena Shanks Backues was the daughter of Andrew Jackson Shanks and
Mary Elizabeth Crumb Shanks. She married Rainey Lee Backues. They had known each other all their lives, having grown up in the Paydown ares.They were the parents of four children -

Edith Virginia married Earl John Scronce
Mildred Laverne died in infancy
Norman Dean married E. Sharol Woolsey
Jared "Jerry" married Donna Lee Ohnemus
