Richard Watson Toy, 90, of Kittanning, passed away Thursday, Jan. 6, 2011, at Butler Memorial Hospital, Butler. He was born Dec. 23, 1920, in Kittanning, the son of Curtis Emmit and Vioma Elizabeth (Bowser) Toy. Richard was a 1938 graduate of Kittanning High School. He attended the University of Pittsburgh, where he was a member of the Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity. A Baptist by faith, Richard was a resident of the Kittanning area all his life. He was a member of Millwright Unions in Morgantown, W.Va., and Pittsburgh and he worked as a heavy equipment operator prior to his retirement. Richard was an avid reader and loved a great Western. He also enjoyed sports, particularly golf and football. First and foremost, Richard was a family man and he enjoyed family gatherings and spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren; they were the pride of his life, and a testament to that would be those surrounding him in his final days and moments. He was a devoted and loving husband and caring father, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be deeply missed by the many people whose lives he has touched. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife, Thelma (Hodgson) Toy, whom he married June 23, 1945, and shared more than 65 beautiful years of marriage; his son, Richard J. Toy and his wife, Karen, of Bethel Township; his two daughters, Susan Kunkle and her husband, Richard, and Debra Wolfe and her husband, Don, all of Kittanning; one sister, Virginia Hohing and her husband, Charles, of Pittsburgh; four grandchildren, Kelly Toy and her companion, William Smith, Adam Toy, Shellie Cornman and her companion, Bob Carnahan, and Zane Clever; and his two great-grandchildren, Skyler Smith and Chase Carnahan. He was preceded in death by his parents; his granddaughter, Ashley Clever; four brothers, Ralph Toy, Sidney Toy, Stanley Toy and Theodore Toy; one sister, Hazel McIlwain; and three siblings who died in childhood, Christian Toy, Vioma Ruth Toy and Olive Toy. Relatives and friends may visit from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the BAUER FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICES INC., 515 N. McKean St., Kittanning.
