Laurel Leader-Call, Mon., 5 Feb 1962, p. 1 - S. D. (Steve) Brogan, 71, 1839 Lindsey Ave., former Jones County sheriff, died in a local hosp. Sun. night after a long illness. Brogan became sheriff of Jones County in the spring of 1948, when he was elected to fill out the unexpired term of the late Luther Holder. He was a retired member of the Laurel Police Dept. & a veteran of W W I. He was the First Sergeant of the Laurel unit, serving in the conflict. During his 28 years in Laurel he became a member of Masonic Lodge No. 414, the order of Eastern Star & the American Legion & was a member of the Second Ave. Bapt. Church. Funeral services will be held Tues. at 2 o'clock, from Memory Chapel. Burial will be in Hickory Grove Cem. with Masonic rites at the graveside. Surviving him are his widow, Mrs. Hattie Brogan-Laurel; 4daus: Mrs. Curtis Bradford, Mrs. Odell Parker, Mrs. John W. Johnson & Mrs. Bill Holder, all of Laurel; 2sons: Billy D. Brogan-Meridian & Charles T. Brogan-Shreveport, LA; 2bros: Mike Brogan-Laurel & Russell Brogan-Denver, CO. 11 gch.
