John William Harvley was the only child and son of Benjamin Buntin Harvley and his first wife, Rachel Abigail Robinson (1834-1857). His mother died soon after his birth.

Citizen of Langley Claimed By Death
Langley, S.C., April 14
J. W. Harvley, age 68, for many years a resident of this community, died at his home this morning at 8:30 o'clock.

Mr. Harvley's death came as a shock to his many friends for he had only been ill for a short time. He was held in high regard by all who knew him and all will mourn his passing.

Funeral services will be conducted tomorrow afternoon at 4 o'clock from the Langley Baptist church with the Rev. C. E. Smith officiating, Interment will follow in the Langley cemetery.

The deceased is survived by his wife; one daughter Mrs. George W. Long, Greenville, S.C.; one adopted son, Harvley McElhaney, Langley; three sisters, Mrs. Kate Rush of near Greenwood, Mrs. Emma Rush, Greenwood, and Miss Ida Harvley, Troy, S.C.
