Jean H. Briggs age 78 of French Tract, NM (Springer), passed away peacefully Tuesday July 28, 2009 at the family home at French Tract, NM. She was born February 5, 1931 in Long Branch, New Jersey, the only child of Leroy and Dorothy Appleby-Huylar. Jean met the love of her life while working as a telephone operator in New Jersey, when she went on a blind date with Dewey Briggs, they married in 1953 in Keyport, NJ. In 1971 they moved to Springer, NM where they opened a family business "Briggs Valley Conoco" at French Tract. Jean drove the school bus for Springer Schools for 24 years along with Dewey. She is survived by her loving husband of 56 years Dewey of the home, one son Steve and wife Linda of Springer, two daughters, Pamela Padilla of Springer, Joy Comstock and husband Tom of Grand Terrace, CA. Grandchildren Johnny Padilla of Albuquerque, NM, Jason Padilla of Springer, NM, Rebecca, Rachael and Samuel Comstock all of Grand Terrace, CA, Patricia Casados and husband Ricky of Raton and Stephen Draper Jr. four great grandchildren, Jazmin, Joseph, and Lyrica Draper and Angelina Casados all of Raton. nieces, nephews and extended family also survive.
