Mary D. Baca age 82 passed away December 22, 2009 in Raton. She was born July 15, 1927 in Raton, NM the daughter of Frank Torres and Rosa Sanchez. She was preceded in death by her parents and step-father Roy Valdez. Also by her husband Benigno Baca of Springer, NM and her brother Cliffard Valdez of California. Mary is survived by sisters, Lillian, Evelynn, Lillia, Nora and brother Richard, all from California. Mary is also survived by daughter Dorine Brown of El Paso, TX, sons Albert Baca and wife Christine Baca of Rio Rancho, NM, Ben Baca of Springer, NM, and Frank Baca of Globe, AZ. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, one great great-grandchild on the way, and numerous nieces and nephews. Mary lived in the Wagon Mound, NM area through her childhood until meeting Benigno. They married and resided there until moving to Springer, NM in 1959 with their 4 children. In 1964 Mary returned to Raton where she was employed with local Raton businesses. In 1970, Mary moved back to Springer to continue her life with her children and grandchildren. Mary retired in 1980 and throughout the past 28 years she enjoyed taking care of and loving her grandchildren. Mary enjoyed fishing and cooking for anyone and everyone. Her door was always open and her table was always set. Mary was always joking and laughing. She loved her family very much and her family loves her. Visitation will be held Sunday December 27th from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Alderette-Pomeroy Funeral Home Chapel. A Christian Liturgy Outside the Mass will be held Monday December 28th at 11:00 a.m. with Deacon Thomas Alderette officiating. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Colfax General Long Term Care in Springer, NM.
