Margaret Jarrett, 89, passed away January 2, 2011 in Katy, Texas. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, January 7, 2011 at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church with Rev. Hoa Nguyen, officiating.

The Rite of Committal will be held in Sacred Heart Cemetery under the direction of Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home.

Peggy was born in Brooklyn, New York on November 14, 1921 to Marjorie and George Coogan. She graduated from Prospect Heights Hospital School of Nursing in 1943, then volunteered for the Army, entering as a Second Lieutenant. She shipped out in the fall of 1944 and eventually made her way to France where she won two battle Stars for her service.

Peggy practiced her profession for 60 years, starting as a Surgical Nurse at the Wichita General Hospital ending as a Patient Advocate for United Regional Health Care System. In between she served as Director of the Wichita General and Bethania Hospital Schools of Nursing, the Vernon Regional Junior College of Vocational Nursing and from 1951 to

1967 as Director of the MSU Infirmary. Along the way she earned a Bachelor and Master's Degree in Biology from MSU and met and married her husband of 50 years, James F. Jarrett, a Wichita Falls pharmacist.

In November of 2002, in recognition of her 60 years of nursing, Sigma Theta Tau Xi Lota and District 11 of the Texas Nurses Association established the Peggy Jarrett Nursing Excellence Scholarship. Peggy was an avid supporter of MSU basketball and football programs.

Peggy was preceded in death by her husband James F. Jarrett. She is survived by a son, Kevin Jarrett and wife Nina of Richmond, Texas and granddaughter, Becklien Ellen of Richmond; and nephew, Edwin Maloy and wife Katherine of Norman, Oklahoma; cousin, Bob Clynch and sons, Brandon and Chris Clynch of Marshall, Texas.

The family will be at the funeral home Thursday evening from 6-7 PM, for visitation.

Memorials may be sent to the Peggy Jarrett Nursing Excellence Scholarship at MSU Nursing Program or to Our Lady Queen of Peace Building Fund.
