SIMEON BILLBE DIED SUNDAY

Deceased Had Lived In Allen County Since 1869 -- Death Due to Old Age and Congestion of Lungs

Simeon Billbe, who has been a resident of Allen county since 1869, died at 5:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon, at the residence of his son, Grant Billbe, of old age and congestion of the lungs. He had been ill for five weeks. The funeral was held at the house Sunday afternoon, at 3 o'clock, Rev. William Hankins of the U. B. church, conduction the ceremony. Burial was in the Iola Cemetery. There was no services at the grave save a short prayer.

Simeon Billbe was born in Washington County, Pa., on December 9, 1822 and was therefore 81 years 6 months and 24 days old at the time of his death. When a boy he went from Pennsylvania to Illinois. This was in 1853 and he lived in Illinois until 1869, when he came to Allen County, where he settled on a farm and engaged in that occupation until eight years ago when he moved to Iola. Mr. Billbe was not himself a member of any church, but the members of his family were all identified with churches, and were mostly Baptists and Christians. However, Mr. Billbe often summed up his religion by saying that he believed in Man and God. He was not a member of any secret order. Mr Billbe was well known by the old residents of Iola and Allen county. He was one of the county's substantial citizens, and his death will be very generally regretted.

He leaves a wife and six children. The children are: Amy C. Patterson of this city; Mary A. Welch of London Mills, Ill.; S.W. Billbe of Camargo, Ill.; John P. Billbe, of Winfield, Kan.; T. Billbe of Madison, Kan.; and Grant Billbe of this city. All of these were here to attend the funeral with the exception of S.W. Billbe and H.E. Billbe.
