Mr. James "Jimmy" Willie Hyers Allen, 84, died Saturday night (January 1, 2011) at his residence after an extended illness.

He was a native of Pierce County, but he has lived in Waycross since 1957. He retired from CSX Railroad as an electrician after 42 years of service. He will be remembered by his family as a "jack of all trades."

He is the son of the late Henry Hyers Allen and Pearl Griffin Allen. He was the last of 11 siblings.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Bertha Biddy Allen of Waycross; one daughter, Mary Ann Allen of Waycross; three sons, David Ray Allen (wife Christine) of Annapolis, MD, Donald J. Allen of Brunswick, and Dale H. Allen of Waycross; 8 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday (January 6, 2011) at the Music Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Shiloh Cemetery in Blackshear. The family will receive friends 1 until 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
