COOGAN, Michael J. Age 84, of Dayton, passed away Wednesday May 11, 2005. Mr. Coogan, an Army veteran of WWII, was retired from International Harvester where he had a long career as a truck salesman. He was very involved and active in many area clubs and organizations including: the Ancient Order of Hibernians where he held almost every state, local and national office including National President; he was a Past-Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Council #500; member of the United Irish Club; member of the Shamrock Club; Midwest President of the Irish Northern Aid Committee; founder of the first Irish Dancing School in Dayton in 1948; member of Clan Na Gael; Past President of the Dayton Darting Association; member of the Board of Directors at Calvary Cemetery; and a member and head-usher at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dayton. He was preceded in death by a sister, Honora Cowell, and two brothers, William Coogan, Jr. and John "Jack" Coogan. Mr. Coogan is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Kathleen "Kay" (Synnett); four daughters, Kathy Coogan, Maureen Coogan, Peggy Gidjunis, Colleen Coogan; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Michael J., Jr. & Margaret Coogan, Patrick Coogan; two granddaughters, Allison and Jessica Gidjunis; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Mary & Donald Borton, Julia Stegeman; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial 10:00am Tuesday at St. Joseph Church in Dayton. Burial Calvary Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 4-8pm at The Westbrock Funeral Home, 1712 Wayne Avenue. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Wellness Connection of the Miami Valley or Hospice of Dayton. Envelopes available at the funeral home.
