Obituary

Saturday, April 28th, 1923, at 1:45 a.m., Anna S. Hersperger's spirit quietly and peacefully took its flight into the Great Beyond. Suddenly stricken with pneumonia the 15th of April, she was ill from the beginning, and though every attention was given her, she was called away.

She was a devoted wife and mother and leaves to mourn her departure a broken-hearted husband and four children—Webb, Evelyn, Russell, and Louise, the latter at the ages when a mother's love and counsel are so invaluable—in such cases it almost shakes the faith of the strongest, yet, we pray, Thee, O God, to enable us to say, "Thy will be done."

Anna was a good neighbor, ever ready to lend the helping hand. She stayed very close to her fireside, yet always enjoyed an outing with her friends.

A gloom is cast over the whole community and the large gathering of friends around her grave attested the love and respect in which she was held.

April 30th, Mr. Griggs, a much-beloved Episcopal clergyman, who officiated at her marriage to Mr. Elmer Hersperger, offered a beautiful prayer of comfort and promise at the house, after which the remains were taken to Monocacy Chapel, there Mr. Griggs read some comforting scripture and that lovely hymn, "Abide With Me," the bearers then bore the coffin to the grave in Beallsville cemetery and we left all that was mortal of Anna within its confines.

Our hearts are sad, but we weep not as those who have no hope.
