Monday, July 17, 1972

Earl ARTER, Akron druggist, died unexpectedly at 9 a.m. today at his drug store in Akron. Final arrangements are pending at the Haupert funeral home in Akron.

Final rites will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Haupert funeral home at Akron for Earl ARTER, 78, Akron druggist who was the town's oldest businessman. Mr. Arter died of a coronary attack at 9 a.m. Monday in his store at the junction of Ind. 14 and Ind. 19 in Akron.

The Revs Claude FAWNS and John MOORE will officiate at the rites and burial will be in the Akron cemetery. The Akron Masonic lodge will conduct memorial services at the funeral home at 9 o'clock tonight. Friends may call at the funeral home this afternoon and tonight.

Mr. Arter had operated a drug store in Akron since 1914.
He was born in Akron Aug. 13, 1893, to John and Annie SMITH ARTER. His marriage was in 1914 to Lena GERRARD, who survives. Mr. Arter was a 56-year member of the Akron Masonic lodge, a 50-year member of the Indiana Pharmaceutical association and belonged to the Akron Chamber of Commerce and the National Association of Retail Druggists.

Surviving with the wife are a son, Stephen [ARTER], Fort Wayne; three grandchildren; a foster son, Wayne MORRIS, Lafayette; two sisters, Mrs. John (Ethel) EADS, Atwood, and Mrs. Charles (Marie) JUDD, Elkhart, and a brother, Ralph [ARTER], Indianapolis. A brother, Harvey [ARTER], preceded in death.
