Charles Gard Dead
Charles Eliot Gard passed away at 6 o'clock on the morning of the 6yh of February, 1903, at his home, four miles southwest of Westmoreland, and his remains were interred in the Westmoreland City Cemetery on the following day. The services were conducted at the house of Rev. Chas. Thomson, under the auspices of Grant Lodge, A.O.U.W. of which he was a honored member.
Charles Eliot Gard was born in Grant County, Wisconsin, July 10, 1854. He came to Pottawatomie County, Kansas, with his now deceased parents, David and Mary Gard, and except for a few years spent in southern Kansas, his life was spent in this county. When about 16 or 17 years of age he was converted and joined the Methodist Episcopal church.
On the 11th of October, 1881, he was married to Miss Lydia Thomison. To them were born six sons, five of whom, with his now bereaved widow, survive him. His surviving brothers and sister ar H.L. and W.U. Gard of Fostoria, and Mrs. Rachel Mack, of Lincoln, Kansas.
Although greatly afflicted during the past 5 years of his life he was very patient and uncomplaining. His loved ones and friends do not mourn as those without hope, as he told of his prospects of a home in Heaven, where there is no more sickness or death.
The sympathies of the community are extended to the bereaved family.
Card of Thanks,
To all who so kindly ministered to us during the sickness, death, and burial of our dear beloved husband, father and brother, we return our heartfelt thanks.
May the father bestoe his choicest blessings upon each and all.
LYDIA GARD and Children.
