Gordon O. Glasmann

TWIN FALLS - Gordon Owen Glasmann, 69, of Twin Falls, died Wednesday evening, April 5, 1992 at this home following a long illness.

He was born April 1, 1923 in Ogden, Utah, the son of Blaine and Phyllis Glasmann. He attended Ogden schools and one year at the University of Utah, before enlisting in the Navy where he served in the Underwater Demolition Team and Sea-Bees. He was also a hand-to-hand combat skills, demolition, and marksmanship instructor following the service. He attended Weber State Junior College and received his bachelor’s degree in journalism from Northwestern University. He returned to Ogden and the family newspaper, the Ogden Standard-Examiner where he eventually managed Western Arts Photo Engraving Service.

He moved to Twin Falls and managed KLIX TV and Radio beginning in 1956. The radio station sold in 1964, and he continued to manage KMVT Television until 1972. At that time, he started the Magic Valley Newspaper Group, which included the Wood River Journal, North Side News, and the Gooding County Leader, selling out in 1988, at which time he returned to Twin Falls. During that time, he also published the Horse Times and designed, built, and operated Mountain Meadows, a mobile home park in Ketchum.

He had a lifelong interest in horses and, in his youth, along with one of his brothers, competed against and beat the U.S. Olympic Jumping Team. He also belonged to the polo team while at the University of Utah. For the past 15 years, he was a member of and later state director of the National Cutting Horse Association and was a past vice-president of the Idaho Cutting Horse Association. He was the selected Man of the Year in Twin Falls and was a board member of the Magic Valley Regional Medical Center Foundation.

He married Marie Winckler in October, 1944, in Richmond, Va. They were later divorced in 1958. He later married Joyce Gambrel on Feb. 22, 1977 in Twin Falls.

Surviving are his wife, Joyce of Twin Falls; a son, Stephen Glasmann of Montrose, Colo.; a daughter, Jo Woodbury of Milsap, Texas; a stepson, Gene Turney of Twin Falls; a septdaughter, Pamela Matlice of South Carolina; one brother, Jay W. Glasmann of Bethesda, Md.; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Gregory Michael [sic] Glasmann; and a brother, Blaine Glasmann II.

The family will greet friend from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral chapel. Friends may also call from 9 a.m. until the time of the funeral on Saturday at the funeral chapel.
