John Jerard Batté of Smyrna, Tennessee, age 43, died at Vanderbilt Medical Center on Dec. 19, 2010.

He was born Jan. 27, 1967, in Laredo, Texas to George and Jean Batté. He attended the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire where he earned his Bachelor of Business Administration degree with a major in Accounting and a minor in Management Information Systems. On June 16, 1990, he was united in marriage to Tracy Larson in Eau Claire, Wisconsin.

John served as Vice President of Finance and Chief Financial Officer for Ajax Turner Company, Inc., of Nashville, Tennessee.

John is remembered as a loving family man with a zest for life and a love of the great outdoors. Though he had a passion for golf, his brothers teased him that he could never find his knees when chipping. An avid fisherman, his competitions with his brothers always ended up with the rules being made up along the way. John inevitably won, regardless of how much the rules changed.

Of all his passions, none exceeded his zeal for God and his family. His desire to see the Gospel extended to the ends of the earth resulted in his creation of the Effectual Fervent Prayer Network, a website and software program that allows churches to maintain and personalize a prayer network for their members. It was John's desire to make the healing power of the Word of God available to everyone, across the nation and around the world.

John is survived by his wife, Tracy, his children, Landen (11) and Lindsey (17), his parents, George and Jean Batté, and his brothers, James, Jeff, and Jason. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Pallbearers include James Batté, Jeff Batté, Jason Batté, Tim Sweeney and Michael Larson.

Funeral services for John Jerard Batté will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 23, 2010, at Springhouse Worship and Arts Center, 14119 Old Nashville Highway, Smyrna, TN 37167. Interment will be in Mapleview Cementary in Smyrna immediately following the service. Relatives and friends are welcome to pay their respects at Springhouse Worship and Arts Center on Thursday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

John will be remembered by those who knew and loved him as a strong, gracious, loving and respected man of character, and as an amazing husband and father. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation for the overwhelming outpouring of love, prayers and support. Cards and other expressions may be sent to the family at 102 Munson Ct.
