First Name; John
Born in Shelby County, Kentucky
Father: Joshua Parker
Mother: Mary Patterson

John arrived in Texas in 1850 and opened the first general store at Old Decatur (now Murphy). John then decided he would return to Kentucky and get the rest of his family. His first wife had died, so John returned with his second wife Mary Eloise, and five slaves.
John's oldest son, Samuel, was seriously wounded in the Civil War. In later years Samuel became a Texas Ranger and assisted in the capture of Belle Starr. Two of John's sons were injured and two were killed in Civil War battle. John died before they returned. He was buried at the Old Decatur Cemetery.
