Jane was married on 19 March 1837 to John Phillips in Jackson county, Ohio by Stephen Dunham, Justice of the Peace. On 31 July 1838, Alfred Gardner and Jane Phillips were issued a license to marry in the same county. A note in the Jackson county marriage record book stated their certificate was "attacht" due to several returns made on one certificate, but appears to be missing from the book; therefore, the exact date of marriage and by whom they were married is unknown.

Jane also married Simeon Gibbs on 9 September 1860 in Knox county. They were enumerated in the 1865 Illinois State census of Persifier Township, Knox county, with Simeon listed as age 60 to 70, and Jane in the 50 to 60 age bracket. He likely died prior to Jane's third marriage. Maria Jane Gibbs married Francis P. Durand in Knox county on 20 February 1868. Francis died about 1890. She was named in her father's Will, written in 1870 and probated in 1872, as Jane "Duran", along with 7 other siblings.

Jane's estate listed four of her children as heirs. Those surviving her were sons Alfred Jr. and John, and daughters Mrs. Minerva Secrist and Mrs. Rebecca "Snyder" (Snider).
