Joseph "Chick" Bernard Barricks passed away on December 30, 2010 at the McCandless Veterans Home in Florence, CO, weeks short of his 97th birthday.

A Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Monday January 3, 2011 at Temple B'nai Jeshurun, with burial to follow the service in Jewish Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines.

Chick was born in Sioux City, Iowa January 16, 1914, to Charles and Dora Barricks, Russian immigrants. Preceded in death by his beloved wife, Helene, four brothers and a sister. During his 20's Chick was a musician in Los Angeles, playing piano with many of the well-known bands of that era. He enlisted in the U.S. Army during World War II, rising to the rank of Staff Sergeant. After the war Chick enjoyed a long and productive career as a toy designer and composer. His company, Mercury Plastics, produced the extremely popular "Sky Gun" and other "out of this world" toys. He is survived by daughters, Lynn (Mike) Rossman and Dr. Donna (Robert) Tillotson, grandchildren Galit (Matt) Freylack, Cory Fossum, Cheney Fossum, and great-grandson Ethan Fossum. He is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews and Helene's sister, Myra Becker. Memorial contributions can be made to McCandless Colorado State Veterans Home or Frontier Hospice.
