Formerly of Jackson Township in Wells County and a 23-year employee at Sheller Globe in Montpelier until her retirement in 1988, Margaret "Kate" Slater, 78, of Warren died at 2:05 p.m. Saturday, April 2, 2005, at the Warren United Methodist Memorial Home.A 1944 graduate of Jackson Center High School, she resided in Hartford City before moving into the Warren home. She was a member of the Assembly of God Church at Hartford City.Born May 6, 1926 at Upland, she was a daughter of William Howard ‘Red' and Iva Manola Glascock Buckland. Her marriage was on Aug. 20, 1945 at Warren to Robert Gearold Slater, who preceded her in death on March 18, 1977.Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Charles (Judy) Foust and Mrs. Tim (Linda) Norris, both of Hartford City, and Mrs. Ralph (Sharon) Purvis of Warren; one son, Robert Slater of Union City, Ohio; two sisters, Donna Black of Marion and Kay Riddell of Indianapolis, and 12 grandchildren. Preceding her in death were three sisters, Helen Ogen, Betty Searls and Bonnie Boxell, and two brothers, Roger and Mack Buckland.Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Glancy Funeral Homes, H. Brown & Son Chapel, Warren, where services will be at 10:30 a.m.Thursday with Rev. Robert Thomas officiating. Burial will be in Jones Cemetery at Warren. Memorials to State Amvets-Indiana Veterans Home Fund c/o Cal Creed.
