John T. "Big John" Davenport, Sr., 81 of Pineville passed away Sunday, December 19, 2010 at the Middlesboro Appalachian Regional Hospital. He was born in Bell-Jellico, Kentucky on February 12, 1929, a son of the late Charlie and Mossie Lee West Davenport. Big John was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church, was a United States Army Veteran and had also served as a Deputy Sheriff for the Bell County Sheriff's Department for 50 years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, John T. Davenport, Jr., daughter, Karen McNicoll and brothers and sisters, Paul Davenport, Elias Davenport, Silas Davenport, Roxie Sparks, Goldie Beck, Ruth Matthews, Beatrice Philpot, Kathleen Sturgill and Birdie Foster.

Survivors include his wife of 27 years, Deana Nichols Davenport, children, Deanna Goodin and Yolanda Salas; sister, Jewel Goodin and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Services will be at 11:00 AM Wednesday at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Liford and Rev. Harold Gene Smith. Music will be by the Martin Crawford Family and Mike Goodin. Burial will be in the Mills Cemetery with family and friends serving as pallbearers. Special thanks to Middlesboro Hospital, Dr. Poore and staff, Pineville Community Hospital, Bell County Sheriff's Department, EMS and the staff at the Farmer Helton Judicial Building.
