Almeda Phipps Matthew's Obituary
(c 19 Apr 1915)

"Almeda, daughter of Robert and Margaret Phipps, was born near Clifty June 6, 1864 and died at her mother's home in Saltillo, April 17, 1915, age 50 years, 10 months, and 11 days. She was the youngest of five children, one brother having preceded her in death many years ago. Two brothers, David and Robert G. and one sister, Mrs. Mariah Bennett, survive her. Her father died when she was about six weeks old and left her and one sister and two brothers to fight the battles of life. Meda, as she was called, acquired a good common school education and taught at several schools in and around Saltillo and we find many of her pupils scattered over our neighborhood. She united with the Christian Church at the age of 24 years. She united in marriage June 26, 1890 to James G. Matthew, who died three years ago. The funeral took place at Cavetown Sunday afternoon, the 19th, conducted by Eld. B.T. Martin."
