Our beloved sister and friend Jean Hughes Deel died peacefully in Salt Lake City, Utah on Oct. 24, 2000. She was born the eldest of five children to Rex and Betty Hughes in Provo, Utah. After completing her education, she pursued her teaching career throughout Utah and Wyoming. She was much loved by her students. Subsequent to her career and marriage, Jean chose to remain in Davis, where she continued her commitment to assist in helping build a new library for the town. She also worked in the local Wal-Mart where she made many new friends and touched the hearts of everyone she encountered. While being treated at the Huntsman Cancer Institute in SLC, Utah, she continued to received countless loving letters from her many friends and colleagues in the Oklahoma area – a testament to her enduring positive effect on all who knew her.
She is survived by her sisters, Suzanne H. Elder, Kathryne (Kate) Hughes, her brother and wife, James D. and Raquel C. Hughes, and adoring newphews and nieces. The family wishes to express special thanks to the caring staff of the Huntsman Cancer Institute, U of U Hospital, and Radiation Oncology Department at St. Marks Hospital. Jean's family requests that in lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Huntsman Cancer Institute, 2000 Circle of Hope, SLC, Utah 84112-5550 in her name. Arrangements were under the direction of Independent Funeral Service.
