John was born to John and Mina (Puffer) Cundiff, and grew up in Chicago and Grand Rapids, MI. He retired from Grand Trunk Railroad as a Police Officer, but continued working various odd jobs to stay active.
John loved driving, cooking, riding motorcycles, and tinkering in the garage on anything from old bicycles and broken carburetors to lawn mowers and anything else that needed repair.
John is survived by his wife of 27 years, Lavida (Preston), daughters Linda, (Richard) Drury, Julie (Rob) Lloyd all of Vancouver, WA, Sheri (Jeff) Fordice of Saline, MI; and step-son Harold (Ann) Olds of Charlotte, MI; nine grandchildren: Stephen Gray and Michelle Pense; Seth Evans, Paige Fordice and Graham Fordice; Rebecca Lloyd; and Matthew Olds, Elizabeth Grant and Tony Olds; eleven great-grandchildren; sisters Margaret (Keith) Adams and Helen (Louis) Crawford of Crete, IL; several nieces and nephews, sisters-in-law Anna Olds and Dilly Love, and his faithful companion, dog "Boomer".
John is preceded in death by his son John B. Cundiff.
A funeral service was held Thursday, January 6, 2011, at St. Michael Catholic Church, with Rev. Fr. James Eisele officiating.
