Revolutionary War Veteran
Samuel Reid, SC Line, S14259, soldier, was the son of Col George Reid and was born 26 Jan 1749 in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. At the age of 13 he moved to Rowan County, North Carolina, then to Abbeville District, South Carolina where he lived, enlisted and served under his father, George Reid. After the Revolution, he lived in South Carolina until 1800 or 1806, then moved to Georgia where he applied 25 Sep. 1832 in Gwinnet County, Georgia. He stated that he "lost his companion" (wife Caldwell) in 1840 after which he moved to St. Clair County, Alabama to live with his children. He died 5 Feb 1843.
On the cover page of the Rev. War Pension File (South Carolina, # S14259) for Samuel Reid it states that he was born in Pennsylvania and was the son of George Reid.

26 Jun 1842 Samuel Reid, age ninety three, being sworn-in the year 1776 in South Carolina, then 27 years of age, entered the Army as a volunteer under General Pickens and Capt. Wardlaw and acted under him as First Lieutenant. No British engagement but with Tories at 96, Kettle Creek and several others. After fall of Charleston, was a refugee until got in the company of General Greene and at Seige of 96.
"My father, George Reid, was a Colonel of the Militia in the same army. I was in North Carolina, Georgia and South Carolina services. I did not leave the Army until after the defeat of Lord Cornwallis in the year 82 or 83. I was in service more than six years. I tried before to get a pension, this is the second time to try."
"I was born in Lancaster County, PA 26 Jan 1749 and entered service at Abbeville District SC. I lived in South Carolina until the year 1806, after that until 1840 in Georgia. When my wife died I moved to St.Clair County, AL to be with my children who reside here."

Fairview Presbyterian Church of Gwinnett County, Georgia was organized on the 9th day of August in the year 1823. It was organized by the Reverend Remembrance Chamberlain, Thomas Beattie, SAMUEL REID, and William Montgomery were set apart to the exercise of their office on the 28th of September,1823, agreeable to our book of discipline.

In a Google Books snippet from North Carolina - South Carolina Bible Records (by Jeannette Holland Austin, Heritage Books, 2008, page 244), I found "Capt. George Reid Bible" owned by Raymond M. Bell of State College, PA. It lists Capt. George Reed born 12/23/1719 in Ireland who married Abigal Leger, born in France and died in Abbeville 11/3/1786. Their children were Rosa who married Major John Bowie; Ann (Nancy) born 12/25/1747 and died 1/12/1769 who married Capt. William Raskin, Jr.; Margaret who married Hugh Reid and then William Cauder Baskin; Samuel who married Caroline Thomson; Alexander; and Joseph (Lieut.) born 6/5/1756 who married Isabella Baskin.

I sent an e-mail to the TVA and they said if no one claimed the grave, in 1966, and moved it then their graves are underwater.
