DeGrasse, Nov 18 - Angeline Mattoon Gotham was born in Leray, Jefferson county, Oct 15, 1824 and died Nov 13, 1907, being 83 years, 29 days old. Mrs. Gotham was a lady of estimable worth, highly respected by her friends and acquaintances, beloved by her children and dearest friends for her Christian character and loving disposition, never tiring of doing deeds to help any one who needed help; unselfish to the very last, thinking not of herself by trying to do every little thing she could to lift a burden that some other loved one carried. She was in possession of all her faculties until ten days before her death, when she was stricken with pneumonia, and her sufferings were terrible to behold, but she never uttered a single complaint and bore her sufferings with Christian fortitude. At such times as her deliriousness left her she talked with her children, calling them by name and said she was ready to go. She was born of Christian parents. Her mother, Abagail Anthony, was a Quaker. Her father, Charles Mattoon was a Congregationalist. She lived a Christian life from her youth. She was the mother of ten children, seven of whom are living to mourn her loss: Charles of Potsdam, Wilbur of Canton, Rozell of Heuvelton, F. Herbert of Russell; Silas of Degrasse; Mrs. L. L. Colton of Clare, and Mrs. A. A. Brundage of DeGrasse. She has also left a large number of other very near and dear friends to mourn her loss. She died on her wedding day. She was married Nov 13, 1844 and died Nov 13, 1907.
