After the first four children were born, Harvey served in the Union Army during the Civil War. He was a sergeant Co. F. 118 Regimen New York volunteer infer. During this time three of their four children died. They are buried in block 1 of the Old Lewis Cemetery, Lewis NY. When his wife died he remarried to Ellen. He died of carcinoma hep. and is bured with his second wife and his brother Brevere.
