WON'T CELEBRATE SON'S VICTORY - William T. Ramsey Died Early This Morning In Lawrence.

CHESTER RAMSEY HIS SON -
Was a Man With an Interesting History -- Moved to Lawrence to Educate His Children. --
(From Wednesday's Daily)

William T. Ramsey, father of Chester Ramsey, the victorious Republican candidate in the race for county attorney, will not celebrate the son's victory. The celebration of the Ramsey family is held in check and attention is paid to a gloom greater than the victory. William T. Ramsey died this morning at his home in Lawrence, stricken by a second and quick attack of paralysis. No funeral arrangements have been made. The deceased had innumerable relatives living in the Uniontown and Redfield neighborhoods, the latter being his home before he went to Lawrence.

William Ramsey was 72 years of age. He was born in Indianapolis, Ind., and when but a young man he and three brothers and three cousins, among whom was Mrs. Jane Pliver, of Peck's Villa, started for Kansas in a prairie schooner. On the way they had innumerable incidents. Mr. Ramsey saved one of the cousins from instant death on the trip. They arrived in Fort Scott on the morning of July 15, 1857. They remained here three days and then went to a point near Redfield, where all took claims.

Mr. Ramsey was married three times, two times outliving his wife. To the first union were born three children, two boys, John and Irvin, and a daughter, now Mrs. Belle Davis of Princeton, Idaho. The boys live at Sandy Point, Idaho. By the second wife the following children were born: Hayner [sic], Chester and Mrs. Ed Crosby of near Redfield. By the third wife were born Daisy Ramsey, who has been living at Lawrence with her parents and Mrs. Mary Stout, of Mackinaw, Ill. Hayner Ramsey is principal of the Chanute schools.

William Ramsey was an ex-soldier of the Civil war. He served for three years and one month in the Tenth Kansas, going in the army during August, 1861. He served honorably and well. At the battle of Prairie Grove, Arkansas, he was shot in the arm. He suffered a great deal from the wound. After the war he settled down and made as good and honorable a citizen as he had a soldier.

About four years ago he moved to Lawrence, where he educated some of his children. Chester Ramsey, county attorney-elect, was one of the children to benefit by the great love of his father. About one year ago, Mr. Ramsey was stricken with paralysis. Afterwards he could not talk. Early this morning a telegram came to Chester Ramsey, telling him to go there immediately. He left at 3 a.m. but it is not know if he arrived in time to spend the last few minutes with his father.

William T. Ramsey was a Universalist in religious belief. He was a good man, not having an enemy in his neighborhood, and surrounded by hosts of friends ready to speak a good word or enact a favor.

No funeral arrangements have been made, but in all probability the body will be taken to Redfield for burial. Relatives know none of the particulars. [Newspapers.com clipping provided by Valerie Boman]
