Eloise Jean (Helt) Schuyler
Former nurse enjoyed travel, needlepoint
Eloise Jean (Helt) Schuyler, 90, formerly of Berwick, died Thursday, Dec. 30, 2010, at the home of her son, Bradley Schuyler, Muncy. Born in Berwick, on July 4, 1920, she was a daughter of the late John and Jennie (Whitmire) Helt. She was widowed from her husband of 64 years, Keith C. Schuyler Sr., on Nov. 7, 2008.
She was a graduate of Berwick High School and the Geisinger School of Nursing. Eloise was a former R.N. and Nursing Supervisor at Geisinger Hospital, Danville. She had also been a nurse for the American Red Cross.
After World War II, she worked at home raising her family and helping her husband, Keith, operate the Center Airport. She also assisted him with many of his business and public service responsibilities.
She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, Berwick, where she was a former Sunday School Teacher and active member of the church.
Eloise was a former volunteer of the American Red Cross Chapter in Berwick. She belonged to the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Delphian Club and had previously volunteered at the Berwick Hospital Gift Shop.
She enjoyed needlepoint and loved to knit sweaters and crochet afghans and blankets for her family. During her years with Keith, she liked traveling to his wildlife shows and insurance conventions throughout the U.S. and Canada. She especially enjoyed traveling to England with Keith for a 50th Anniversary celebration of World War II.
Eloise is survived by her son, Bradley Schuyler, and his wife, Margaret, Muncy. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Fannie Schuyler, Muncy. Her four grandchildren are: Nicole Allen and husband, James, Muncy; B.J. Houseweart, Emporium; Keith C. Schuyler III and Sharon Schuyler, both of Muncy. Five great-grandchildren are: Jordin Langin, who was a caregiver to Eloise; Joe Bower; Jon Langin; Morgan Charles and Mia Long. She also has a brother, John Helt, of the Easton area; a sister-in-law, Claire Schuyler, formerly of Berwick; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sons: Brian Schuyler in 1972; and Keith C. Schuyler Jr. in 1988. She was also preceded by her sister, Margaret Harris.
Friends will be received Tuesday, Jan. 4, from 11 a.m. until noon at the Christ Episcopal Church, 712 E. 16th St., Berwick. Her funeral service will begin Tuesday at noon following the visitation hour at the church. The Rev. Mary Kisner, her church pastor, will officiate. Interment will be in the Elan Memorial Park, Lime Ridge.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the Christ Episcopal Church, 712 E. 16th St., Berwick, PA 18603 or to the McBride Memorial Library, 500 Market St., Berwick.
