Mrs. Sumner Maring was stricken with apoplexy last Friday afternoon and passed away shortly after 6 o'clock without regaining consciousness. She was 71 years, four months of age. She has been in ill health for a number of years, suffering from heart trouble. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon from the M.E. church in charge of Rev. P. R. Powers.

Alma Janney, daughter of Isaiah and Hannah Janney, was born in Melrose Township Jan 9, 1848, having lived a little more than the allotted three score years and ten. She was united in marriage to Sumner F. Maring Jan 1, 1880, with whom she faithfully shared the burden and pleasures of life to the end of her race. She is survived by her husband and one brother, Isaiah B. Janney of Martinsville and a host of friends whom she won and kept by her kindly manner and Godly life.

Born and reared in this county, she was well known and her many virtues had made her beloved by all. She was converted early in life and united with the Methodist church. She was a member of the Marshall church for 17 years and rendered faithful service. Through all her years of semi-invalidism she radiated that sweet Christian atmosphere which belongs to those who live in the presence of Christ.
