John W. Allen, 99, 317 W. Centennial Ave. widely acquainted employee of Ball Brothers died Saturday evening at Ball Memorial Hospital. He was born in Huntington the son of Alfred and Sarah (Webb) Allen and graduated from Angola High School and from Tri-State College at Angola.
Mr. Allen came to Muncie in 1897 was employed as a teller at Merchants National Bank for a brief time and from 1904 until his retirement in 1951 was associated with Ball Brothers, now Ball Corp. Following his retirement he conducted bus tours to theaters, plays, circuses, and other events in Indianapolis, continuing this activity until he was 90 years old. Earlier he had served three terms as a member of Muncie City Council and for two years was president of the group.
Mr. Allen was a member of Hazelwood Christian Church and was a 70-year member of Muncie Lodge 433, F&AM.
Surviving are his wife, Echoe (Spencer) Allen; three daughters, Mrs. Rachel Jane Hurst, Muncie; Mrs. Fred Kleinfelder, Jacksonville, Fla., and Mrs. Jean Stard, Indianapolis; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at the Meeks Mortuary at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday. Cremation will follow. Friends may call at the mortuary 3-6 p.m. Monday and prior to the services Tuesday.
