YATES, ROY T. — Roy T. Yates was born February 26, 1885, in Fillmore county, Nebraska. He departed this life at the Geneva General hospital, April 25, 1951, at the age of 66 years and 2 months.
In 1890, when Roy was but five years of age, he became an orphan due to the death of both parents, Samuel and Etta Yates. Two sisters, Mable and Eva, passed away the same year, leaving him the only surviving member of the family. An uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Hughey, took him into their home, where he grew to manhood.
December 20, 1906, he was united in marriage to Maude L. Warner at Bruning, Neb. To this union were born two daughters who survive. After a lingering illness of 10 years, Mrs. Yates was relieved of her suffering October 26, 1948.
November 1, 1949, Mr. Yates was united in marriage to Mrs. Gertrude Burt at Fairbury, Neb.
Mr. Yates was born, reared and lived most of his life in Chelsea township. Four years were spent in California and in December of 1947, he located in Geneva, where he had since resided.
He was a kind and loving father and husband, having tenderly cared for his companion for the ten years of her illness. This kindly ministry was rewarded by the real happiness which he has known for the past year and a half.
His health began to fail in September of last year, resulting in the need for surgery in December. His recovery seemed certain until 10 days ago when he was stricken with a heart ailment that resulted in his death. He was a member of the Masonic order.
He is survived by his wife, Gertrude, daughters Mable Fox of Geneva and Velma Nun of Ohiowa, five grandchildren, Mrs. Delores Deepe of Carleton, Marilyn and Roger Nun of Ohiowa, Alvin and Dorothy Fox of Geneva, on great-grandchild, Karen Lee Deepe, other relatives and a wide circle of friends.
The funeral was held from the Kritner chapel in Geneva Saturday at 2 p. m. and was in the charge of Rev. Maude V. Mann with the Masonic order having charge at the cemetery. Interment was in the Geneva cemetery.
