GEORGE R. WARD DIED AFTER SHORT ILLNESS.
George R. Ward, prominent farmer residing three miles northwest of Geneva, died early Tuesday morning, July 24, 1945, after a short illness. He was working in the harvest field when he became ill Monday afternoon. He passed on while sleeping.
George Richard Ward, son of John M. and Aurilla Ward, was born in Ashford, Fond du Lac county, Wisconsin, April 29, 1878. When George was nine months old the family moved to Fillmore county, Nebraska, locating for a time near Exeter. Later they moved to a farm north of Geneva, just across the road from R. A. Matteson, George's uncle.
January 28, 1904, Mr. Ward was united in marriage to Susie E. Voigtlander. They located on the farm just south of the Ward home place. Here they had lived ever since. Two children were born to this union, Alva W. and Helen Fern Albro.
Mr. Ward was a progressive farmer and he engaged extensively in raising and feeding cattle. His good business judgment and his industry brought him success in his profession. He was one who always carried his share of the lead in any activity.
He was a member of the Geneva Congregational church, the Masonic order and the Eastern Star. He had served recently as worthy patron of the Eastern Star chapter. He was vice president of the Fillmore County Farmers Mutual Insurance Association and a member of the board of directors of the Fillmore County Agricultural Society.
He leaves to mourn his passing his companion of more than forty-one years, a son, Alva, a daughter, Helen Albro, two grandchildren, Willard and Marie Ann Ward, his aged mother, one brother, Harry M. Ward, one sister, Mrs. Ella Brooke, other relatives and a host of friends. Three brothers preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held at the Geneva Congregational church at 2 p.m. Friday, July 27, Rev Isaac Cassel officiating. Interment was in the Geneva cemetery, with the Masonic order in charge.
