WALTON, MARION EVERETT — Marion E. Walton, a longtime resident of Fillmore county, passed away at the Fillmore County hospital in Geneva Monday, October 23, 1967, aged 85 years and 18 days.
Marion Everett Walton, youngest son of Dudley and Jane Walton, was born at Casey, Ill., October 8, 1882. When Marion was five years old the family moved to Clay county, Nebraska and in 1888 they moved to Fillmore county.
October 8, 1905, he was married to Anna Brotherton of near Geneva, and they had resided in the area most of the time since. It was here he established his home and formed lasting friendships and helped to make and mold the character of his community life.
This marriage was blessed with three children, Zylpha Turner of Lincoln, Marion Melvin, who passed away at the age of three months, and Everett L. of Ottumwa, Ia.
After farming a number of years in the county, the Walton family moved to Geneva in 1920. In 1922 Marion became custodian of the Geneva school system, which position he held 23 years. It was during these years among the groups of young people, playing with them, counseling with them that he acquired the familiar title "Unk" which stayed with him, so probably more people knew him as Unk than as Marion. It always made him feel proud to be recognized as Unk. He felt a man's life is overflowing with joy when he has the respect and friendship of young people.
Mr. Walton was a member of the Methodist church many years and he gave long service on the official board. He was also a member of the Geneva Masonic lodge and the Modern Woodmen of America.
Mr. Walton is survived by his wife Anna; two children, four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren two nephews, five nieces and many friends, young and old.
Mr. and Mrs. Walton observed their 62nd wedding anniversary just two weeks ago at Fair View Apartments in Fairmont, where they had been residing the past few months.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p. m. Thursday, October 26, at the Kritner-Farmer funeral home in Geneva. Rev. K. Orlando Lee officiated. Mrs. H. A. Rosenau sang "Good Night and Good Morning" and "Beyond the Sunset." Mrs. Melvin Olson was accompanist. Honorary pallbearers were Tyler Edgecombe, henry Foster, Fred Fox, Dr. H. A. Rosenau, Carl Schneider and Earl Wilkins. Active pallbearers were Carl Conley, Vaughn Fulton, Charles Grothe, Kenneth Heisey, Derrel Hutchens and Hugh Wilkins. Interment was in the Geneva cemetery with the Geneva Masonic lodge in charge of the final service.
