Cookeville Citizen April 23, 1931

James Thomas Gilliand, 58, died Sunday at his home at Oakhill, in the 5th
district of Overton County, after a prolonged illness. He was the son of
Frank Gilliand, deceased, a Confederate soldier, and one of the pioneers of this section. The funeral was held at the home today at Oak Hill by Rev J F Jones with burial in the Gilliland Cemetery there. Mr. Gilliland had been in ill health for some years and was seldom seem away from home.
He was never married. He is survived by 3 sisters, Mrs. Otto Grimsley, Cookeville; Misses Mary Lou and Nellie Gilliland of Oak Hill.
