Ellis, who was born 88 years ago next March 5, at Dublin, O., the son of David and Mary Ellis, enlisted Aug. 19, 1861, at the age of 15 years and served for the duration of the war. In the early years of the strife, he was a drum major from which he derives his honorary title.

As a private in Co. K, 133rd Ohio Infantry regiment, he served under Gen. U. S. Grant in the siege of Petersburg and Richmond in the final victory over the Confederate forces under Gen. Robert E. Lee.

On March 16, 1871, he was married to Florence Kenton at Columbus. The bride was the great-granddaughter of Simon Kenton, close associate of Daniel Boone, the Kentucky pioneer. A year after their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Ellis moved to a farm in Hardin-co, near Kenton, which was named after Mrs. Ellis' ancestor. They were one of the first residents of the vicinity. Mrs. Ellis died in 1925.

Ellis makes his home here with his daughter, Mrs. Betty Reidy Stewart. Two sons, Earl and Del Ellis, live in Alger and a third son, Zina Ellis, lives in Globe, Ariz.

Two weeks ago, Ellis, thru a nephew, learned that a brother, whom he had believed dead for a number of years, is living in Oregon.
