Thorleif Otis "Leif" Larson was the youngest of nine children born to Bernhard and Elise Larson. He was born on the farm in Wolverton on February 10, 1905. He went to school in Wolverton and Ashland before going west and graduating from Puyallup High School in 1923. During high school, he played his violin in dance bands to earn money in addition to working part time in the Puyallup Furniture Store. When he finished high school, Leif went to work full time in the store, and then became a partner in a store in Auburn just before the depression years.
Leif was in the Army during world War II and during this time he married Cleles Ellison on June 19, 1942. They returned to Washington and operated a furniture store in Seattle for 10 years. In 1953, they again moved to Puyallup where he bought the Puyallup Furniture Store, the same place he had begun his career over 30 years before.
In addition to his music, Leif enjoyed fishing. He was a very active person, belonging to the Elks Lodge, Lions Club, Eagles Lodge and the Puyallup Chamber of Commerce. When he received his 50-year pin in the Elks, he went to the meeting in a wheelchair. He was very active in community affairs, visiting rest homes and hospitals. When he died on January 25, 1976, the Elks donated $1,000 in his memory.
Leif and Cleles had no children together, but Cleles' daughter, Letha, and her family also lived in Puyallup and Letha's sons, Stephen and Scott, knew and loved Leif as their grandpa. When Stephen's daughter, Kimberley, wasa born in 1971, Leif had the joy of being a great-grandpa.
